RESHFT is a design-forward real estate firm with a focus on sustainability. Our mission is to develop SHFT branded Hotels and Residences with an inspiring modern aesthetic and a commitment to environmental practices. It is an extension of SHFT.COM, an award-winning lifestyle media brand created by film producer Peter Glatzer and actor filmmaker Adrian Grenier in 2010.

RESHFT offers a unique combination of green (LEED) building practices, great architecture and interior design, farm-to-table food and beverage, relaxed common work spaces, and a curated programming slate under a proven brand, bringing together elements that elevate the proposition of a sustainable business opportunity for our investors and partners.

SHFT Sources

We source and select the best sustainable furnishing, materials, and lighting, find local artisans and the best sustainable building systems to create a beautiful, balanced living environment - one that does not compromise on luxury or great design.

Capital & Operator Partnerships

We have partnered with a small network of experienced capital groups with whom we work closely on our slate of projects. Some have core capabilities in development and hospitality, while others are purely capital investors. We also have partnered with two of the world’s top hotel operators with whom we collaborate to articulate the SHFT hospitality brand on all of our hotel projects. These partnerships are key to asset acquisition, consistency throughout our hospitality operations, and overall brand growth.

Cultural Programming

RESHFT will provide the cultural architecture for each hotel and residence and will produce on-property events from large launch parties to smaller events such as organic wine-tastings, pop up art shows, screenings, talks, and musical showcases, with an emphasis on local artists and chefs who are in step with the narrative of our sustainable mission and the flavor of each location.

RESHFT brings a targeted media strategy to every project. Whether the goal is to garner local press to bring awareness in the community for a residential building, or a national story to roll out a hotel property, RESHFT has the unique ability to target the right media outlets and key influencers and deliver the audience.

LEED Certification Facilitation

We provide preliminary assessment of LEED goals; facilitation of eco-charrettes; communication with all project stakeholders regarding the LEED process; maintenance of LEED scorecard; research of innovative green products, vendors, and technologies; and management of the entire LEED registration, documentation, submittal, and certification process.

Efficient Water & Heating Systems

RESHFT works with building managers, venders and engineers, and all relevant personnel to ensure the best building performance and implement best practices across all operations.

Sustainable Interior Design & Lighting

RESHFT curates the best in sustainable furniture and lighting for our hotels and residences creating healthy beautiful living spaces, vetting everything for high design, efficient function, and sustainable attributes.

Honoring Local Culture

Taking local culture into account is a large part of our mission. Our properties strive never to force a hotel or residential concept into a place without taking the specific location into consideration. The plans for our projects – like the plans for everything we do – are predicated on a harmonious blend of location, local culture, sustainable living and an eye toward contributing to and reflecting the community.

The W Residences Hollywood

We have partnered with The Residences at The W Hollywood, one of the largest Silver LEED-certified residential properties in the country. SHFT designed a showroom suite, and produced sustainability-focused cultural events at the W, from music series to wine-tastings to pop-up photography installations.

Miami Filling Station

In Miami, we partnered with the Filling Station to create a SHFT showroom, installed a saline pool for healthier swimming, planted native plants, and offered composting system for the residents. SHFT is building community awareness of sustainability throughout the burgeoning Miami Arts District in addition to weekly green-markets, and yoga classes.

SHFT Hotel, Austin

The concept for the first SHFT Hotel was designed for Austin, TX. The SHFT Austin concept features architecture by Lindsay Brown Studios, restaurant and bar by local chef and restauranteur Sonya Cote, and operations by Peabody Hotel & Resorts.

SHFT has had a presence in Austin for several years, having participated in SXSW and launched Food Tripping, the SHFT/Ford app that helps users find healthier food while on the road. We are drawn to the Austin market, which is in sync with our brand and the real estate and hospitality growth there represents a tremendous opportunity for RESHFT.

SHFT ADAPTIVE REUSE PROJECTS

RESHFT is developing two adaptive reuse properties bringing the SHFT brand to these unique landmarks.

RESHFT became the selected team to transform one of the oldest museums in Los Angeles into a hotel and cultural complex in the Fall of 2020. Ten minutes from downtown LA, the project features the restoration of the original 1914 Spanish Mission style museum to be used for hotel meeting spaces, cultural events, a "living room" with food and beverage offerings, and two restaurants. Next to the original museum, the plan is to build a new structure for the boutique hotel, a new performance art space, and work/live studios for artists all on a 12 acre promontory in Mount Washington with spectacular views of the San Gabriel Mountains.

RESHFT is currently in talks with Scottish tourism agencies to develop SHFT Hotels in Scotland with the same criteria and mission along the Whisky Trial. One of the first prospective projects is a Castle owned by one Scottish family for over four centuries. The 10,000 acre estate is in the heart of the Speyside whisky trail and the hotel would transform a magnificent 21 bedroom room castle into a luxury hotel experience full of cultural programming with outstanding local food and whisky packages.

Both projects are anchored by a sustainable luxury hospitality offering within the context of rich local cultural experiences with food, music, and art at the center.

 

As filmmakers who are concerned with climate change, we felt that we could bring something creative to express the changes we wanted to see in the world and were, gratefully, starting to observe. We feel that film, design, art and food are powerful and inspiring ways to convey this narrative; That SHFT was our particular tool to tell this story.

We also wanted to explore the idea that “environmentalism” as a movement, as a separate category, has become anathema. Sustainability should be folded into the fabric of our lives, a part of our consciousness that touches everything we do. It should be reflected in our culture, our art, our design, our cities and nudge us further towards the sustainable direction in which we’re inevitably headed.

SHFT.COM has created hundreds of short digital films, curated thousands of sustainably designed products, and has enjoyed successful partnerships with companies such as: AOL, Virgin, Ford Motor Company, Estee Lauder, Stonyfield Farm, The Weather Channel, Sungevity, Wired, Dwell and most recently Samsung, among others.

The SHFT board includes: Richard Branson, Arianna Huffington, Bill Ford, Gary Hirshberg, and Anna Getty. SHFT has won many awards and earns copious amounts of positive press.

We started partnering with a select group of real estate developers and capital groups in pursuit of interesting sustainable opportunities in growing major and sub markets and formed RESHFT in 2018.

Peter GlatzerCo-Founder

Peter Glatzer is a film producer with seven feature films to his credit including the Sundance hit THE GRAVE and the Tim Roth/Renee Zellweger thriller DECEIVER. He’s made films and created television shows for HBO, Miramax, Fox, MGM and Discovery. He co-founded SHFT with Adrian Grenier to look at environmentalism through a new lens.  It's mission is to introduce sustainable ideas, designs, and stories into the mainstream using creative and inspiring narratives in a variety of media.

Most recently, Glatzer was an executive producer, along with Leonardo DiCaprio, on the feature documentary CATCHING THE SUN which premiered on Netflix. He is the executive producer for the upcoming feature documentary, ORBITAL, currently in production.

In addition to bringing SHFT to the W Hollywood Residences, which served as SHFT home-base for three years, Glatzer and the SHFT team programmed cultural events on the property. He led SHFT into hospitality in earnest with the concept for SHFT Austin, and writing the response to the RFQ for the City of Indio, resulting in RESHFT being chosen as partners on the master developer team.

He was a US delegate to the 2014 Young G8 Summit in London where he co-wrote the white paper on “Energy For All”, which was presented to the G 8 leaders.

Glatzer received his BA in Government from Skidmore College and studied Politics and International Relations at Oxford University.

Adrian GrenierCo-Founder

Adrian Grenier is an actor and filmmaker, best known for his role as Vincent Chase on the HBO series Entourage and has appeared in many films.  He has created numerous short films and directed feature documentaries including Shot in the Dark, Teenage Paparazzo, and How to Make Money Selling Drugs. He co-founded SHFT with film producer Peter Glatzer after the two collaborated on Alter Eco, a documentary TV series for The Discovery Channel.

He created Wreckroom, a music incubator and recording studio in 2012, which also produces music showcases in Brooklyn and Austin, while it nurtures up-and-coming talent.

Grenier has been an activist for many environmental causes over the years. In 2015,  he took on a role as Dell’s first social good advocate, championing healthier, more sustainable choices and actions through digital storytelling and advocacy. That same year, he founded The Lonely Whale Foundation as a vehicle to inspire empathy and action for protecting the ocean environment and marine life. Through Lonely Whale, Grenier has mounted several ocean awareness campaigns, most recently Stop Sucking, an effort to ban plastic straws.

This year, he was named a United Nations Ambassador for the Environment.

SHFT brings access and relationships with key influencers in film, TV, music, and fashion to the RESHFT arsenal. Over the past eight years, SHFT has produced large and small events as well as art and product pop ups in Los Angeles and New York, and at festivals like The Sundance Film Festival, SXSW in Austin, Coachella in Indio, and Art Basel, Miami, among others.

SHFT has delivered hundreds of millions of media impressions through its marketing and PR efforts around original short film series launches, app launches, pop ups, and larger festivals and cultural events.

At the end of the day, we are storytellers. All of our programming for our hotel and residential properties will build upon our experience and continue the narrative of the SHFT brand.
